The Canadian dollar is the official currency of Canada. It is held as a reserve currency by many Central Banks and is considered a benchmark currency. Many banks and financiers observe how the Canadian Dollar behaves against the US Dollar as it allows them to see any internal patterns in the US economy. It is also an important currency used by the Caribbean states as they use it for a reserve currency.

Canada was a former territory of the British Empire and up until 1858 it used the Canadian Pound as its main currency.
