The Yuan or Renminbi is the official currency of the People’s Republic of China and is used as the legal tender of mainland China. The currency, however, is not widely used in Hong Kong. Its name is often confusing as Yuan is in actual fact the primary unit of the Renminbi.

One Yuan is subdivided by 10 Jiao and a Jiao is in turn subdivided by 10 Fen. The currency was pegged to the US Dollar until 2005 when it came under the close attention of the Chinese Central Bank.
