The Rupee is the official currency of the republic of India. The currency was thought to have been first used in the 1400s at the behest of Sher Shar Suri, the founder of the short-lived Sur Empire. The first paper Rupees were introduced in 1770 by the bank of Hindustan.

The modern Rupee is theoretically subdivided by 100 Paisa although in 2011, anything less than 50 Paisa is now not accepted as legal tender.

Today, the Indian economy is booming and the country is set to become one of the wealthiest and influential nations of the 21st century.
