The Mexican Peso is the official currency of the Mexico and is subdivided by 100 centavos.

Its origins can be found in the old Spanish ‘pieces of eight’ and was used extensively in the United States and Canada up until the 20th century. In the early 1990s the Peso suffered from hyperinflation causing the government to issue a new Peso, making one of the new Pesos worth a thousand of the old ones. The old Pesos were removed over a three year period allowing the ‘new’ part of the name to be dropped.
