The Ruble has been the currency of Russia for 500 years and has been used as the legal tender for the Russian Empire, Soviet Union and today’s Russian Federation. The currency is also used in the two partially-recognised republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Strangely for a major currency the Ruble has no official symbol, a number have been suggested over the years but none have so far been officially accepted.
