The US Dollar or the ‘Greenback’ is the official currency of the United States of America as well as a handful of South American countries including Ecuador, Panama and El Salvador. The British overseas territory of the Virgin Islands also uses the Dollar as its sole currency.

It is the most powerful and well-known currency in the world, being recognised as the currency most used for international transactions. It is also the preferred reserve currency. As a result the US Dollar has a profound impact on the global economy and anything that effects the United States often has a knock-on effect on the rest of the world.
